Below is a helpful guide on maximizing your safety while playing Club Penguin Legacy, or even browsing the internet in general.
Online Safety Tips for Kids
Keeping Personal Information Limited
We recommend you keep your personal information limited to yourself only. Do not share your real name, or any photos of yourself or the people around you. We also advise you to not share details about your location and this includes your home address, city, or even country.
Such information can easily be used with malicious intent to further seek additional information from you. This is known as social engineering. Make sure you use your common sense and trust your instinct when interacting with other people on the internet.
Do Not Click Links From People You Don't Know/Trust
Never click on any links from people you do not know or trust. Links can sometimes contain malicious viruses or malware that can infect your computer and fetch personal information from your computer. Do not click on any links or download any files that is not from the official Club Penguin Legacy team.
Choose Strong Passwords
Passwords are one of the biggest weak spots of the internet, and there is no way around them. Make sure you do not choose easy passwords you remember, this includes using the same password for multiple sights. Selecting stronger passwords makes it harder for cybercriminals to demystify.
Be Careful With Who You Meet Online
Remember that meeting people virtually is not the same as in real life. People you meet are not who they always claim to be. They may not even be real. Be as cautious and sensible in your online social life as you are in your in-person social life.
Joining Virtual Communities
Club Penguin Legacy does not have any other online-based communities/servers such as Discord. We recommend that you visit such communities and sites with caution as we cannot validate their safety or integrity. As such, we offer no support for these communities and servers.
Online Safety Tips for Parents
Be Aware
Install filters to protect your child from inappropriate websites and make sure you stay up-to-date and track your child's web history by keeping tabs on your child's internet use. Make sure you know and understand what sites your child visits, how much time they spend on them, and whom your child is communicating with.
Be Curious
Set limits for screen time to have a balance with real world connections. Club Penguin Legacy offers 'Screen Time' as a way to limiting your child's playtime. Put the family computer in a public place in your home, such as the kitchen or the family room, to encourage an open dialogue and discourage unwanted online behavior.
Lastly, consider now allowing your child to have any connected devices, such as a smartphone, laptop computer, or tablet, in private areas of your home, like a bedroom or bathroom.
Be Engaged
Keep the conversation going. Start talking with your child at an early age about online use and continue the dialogue as your child gets older.
Know any password that your child uses, and explain that they shouldn't be shared with friends.
Limit Younger Children from Playing
As of now, to comply with international laws and regulations, Club Penguin Legacy is only for ages 13 and up. We recommend children under the age of 13 to not register an account under their name unless it is done by a parent or guardian.
We also recommend you turn on Club Penguin Legacy's Complete Safe Chat feature to maximize your child's online safety.
